May 12 Update

Posted by jriccardi under: 1.

Today was RIF day (Reading is Fundamental).  Our class visited the library today where they heard a story and were able to pick out a book as a gift to them.  Enjoy reading it together!

 This Thursday, May 15 is our Spring Concert.  It will be held at Brodniak Hall (at the High School).  Your child needs to be there at 6:45.  The students have been practicing hard to sing and sign songs for the concert.  Please help them choose some nice clothes to wear.  It will be a fun night!

Green Cards

Posted by jriccardi under: 1.

Green Cards          Wow!  We have been working so hard on making good choices every day.  We have all been earning green cards and visiting the treasure box at school.  It is time to earn more green cards.  Starting Thursday, April 24, students will need to earn 15 green cards before visiting the treasure box.  We have discussed this at school, but please help support your child with this new change.

Kindergarten Happenings in May

Posted by jriccardi under: 1.

May Kindergarten Update

Wow! The last full month of school is here. It is full of lots of learning and special events.

Your child has made a new May calendar. Please hang it up at home in a place your child can refer to as the month goes by. As in the past, it is color coded.

Blue - Library Days (don’t forget to turn your library books in on time)

Red - Special Events

5th - Alice in Wonderland play in Mt. Vernon

9th - Mothers/Special Person Celebration (2:30-3:30)

15th - Spring Concert

Orange - Monthly Awards Assembly (10:10)

Sticker - Walk-a-thon (anyone can come join us and walk to support our PTA)

Green - No School (Memorial Day Weekend)

We will be studying the following letters this month and complete the alphabet:

Q = quails making a quilt

U = Umbrella

X = X-ray

In Math, we are completing a unit on Shapes. Kindergartners have designed with a variety of 2D (pattern blocks) and 3D shapes (geoblocks), compared and contrasted them, worked with the Making Shapes computer program, and played many games to explore and learn more about shapes. Next, we will move into a unit on Adding and Subtracting.

In Science, we will complete a unit on Sunflowers. We will explore the parts of a seed, plant a mammoth sunflower, and learn what plants need to grow. Be on the lookout for sunflower sprouts coming home at the end of May or beginning of June. They will need to be planted in the ground or a larger pot as soon as possible to survive.

Keep reading those little books and I Can Read notebooks! We have new stories and poems still to learn! Reading is Fun!
