May News WOW, only six weeks of school left! This year has flown by. These last few weeks will also pass very quickly as we have many exciting activities planned. On May 20th we will take a fieldtrip to the firehouse. If you want to attend with your child, make sure you have completed a volunteer registration form this school year. Our final units this year will include: Mother’s Day, bugs, firefighters, dinosaurs, sea creatures, and Father’s Day. The final three letters (q, x, z) will be introduced. Shapes, colors, and concepts like big/little, tall/short, and more/less will be reviewed. We will focus on numeral recognition and counting. Be sure to visit the library and check out some books on these subjects. While there you can sign up for the summer reading program. There are many exciting events planned for the next few weeks. On May 15th the spring concert will be held. All the classes will be performing. The concert begins at 7:00 and will last about 30 minutes. The Pre-K classes will go to the firehouse on May 20th. Watch your child’s bag for the permission form. May 21st is Whitney’s Walk-a-thon. The school will be sending information regarding road closures, donations, schedule, etc. The last day of developmental pre-school and end of the year party will be held at the bowling alley on June 12th.

April News Spring has Sprung! We hope you had a wonderful break. The developmental pre-k classes are ready for warmer weather and outdoor fun. We are looking forward to our field trip to Cow Town on May 1st. To prepare for this trip we are completing an Old MacDonald unit. We will also complete units on frogs and flowers. Books we are enjoying in class include: Ten Tiny Tadpoles by Debbie Torbett, Jump, Frog, Jump! by Robert Kalan, Mrs. Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley, and Flower Garden by Eve Bunting. We are continuing to work on identifying shapes and colors. We are also counting everything we see! The letters j, k, w, and y will be introduced. There are many fun things you can do at home this month to reinforce the skills we are working on. When you take walks, look for all the flowers you can find and discuss their colors. As you drive around look for farm animals and make their sounds. How many shapes can your child find in his/her bedroom? We have several field trips coming up before the end of the year. If you wish to go with us, you must complete a volunteer form. These forms should be turned in at least two weeks before the trip. Please let us know if you need a volunteer packet. March News March will be a very busy month in the preschool classes. We are beginning the month with a unit based on Stone Soup. All children are asked to bring in a vegetable on Tuesday, March 4th. Other units of study this month include The Napping House, St. Patrick’s Day, and Bunnies. We have almost finished introducing the letters of the alphabet. This month we will focus on the letters: G, L, U, and N. Shapes will be reviewed. Students will continue to practice sorting and counting skills. At home you might enjoy reading one of the many versions of Stone Soup. Your child could then help you make soup or perhaps he/she would like to create soup in the play kitchen and serve you. Other books of interest this month are The Napping House by Audrey Wood, Jack and the Leprechaun by Ivan Robertson, Hooray for St. Patrick’s Day! by Joan Holub, The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, and If You Were My Bunny by Kate Mcmullan. Encourage your child to tell you about the pictures in the stories.
Conferences will be held on March 20th. There will be no developmental preschool classes that day. We will follow our normal schedule March 21st -25th. You will be contacted later this month to arrange a conference time. Evening conference can be arranged on March 25th if needed.
